Classic Pontiacs For Sale
Man's innate need for speed and show became a bigger than life reality in the 1960's and 1970's with the muscle car revolution. During the 1960's, Pontiac muscle cars were used for street racing and on dragstrips with their high performance V8 engines.
Pontiac is actually credited for the first creative marketing for the now classic muscle cars. Pontiac muscled up cars like the Tempest and the Ventura and added bucket seats, and hood scoops to make them more attractive to the younger crowd of the era.
Because this era turned out the coolest cars, the muscle car era will always be remembered and the classic Pontiacs for sale just seem to become more and more valuable to the classic car collector. These classic cars can be bought, rebuilt and refurbished into like-new condition for car shows, or just for the enjoyment of driving them.
One of the most popular classic muscle cars is the Pontiac GTO, Gran Turismo Omologato, which is an Italian term for a car that is appropriate for street or racing use.The era of the muscle car really boosted the Pontiac image from the boring cars of the 1950's they produced.
The GTO was a milestone in that is caused other automakers to try and keep up with the muscle car popularity by manufacturing their own brand of muscle cars. The GTO took off with huge sales records by 1966 when the 400 cid V8 engine was used.
More power meant more Pontiacs for sale in order to continue to feed man's need for power and speed. The most classic of muscle cars for the era has to be the 1967 GTO because of the classic design.
Following a makeover in body style for the GTO in 1968, in 1969 Pontiac manufactured the first Firebird Trans Am with only 697 ever being made.
By 1970, the Firebird was given a sportier body style and the GTO was equipped with a 455 cid V8 engine. From 1970, the muscle car era seemed to decline and cars with better gas mileage took center stage. While most car makers all but stopped making muscle cars,
Pontiac continued into 2004 with the V8 powered Firebird. Today, the Pontiacs for sale are not only a great value, but one of the most reliable cars on the market.
They are also out of business.
